First Avenue

First Avenue

Ebenezer Howard first proposed Britain's 'Garden Cities' or new towns These were low-cost homes with bathrooms and gardens made available for slum clearance families. Above is Portsmouth's effort - Wymering Garden City - the Garden bit was soon dropped. This is First Avenue on the colloquially named 'Isle of Wight' estate. Fort Widley is on the skyline.
